Every university has a key responsibility to develop strategies, policies and approaches to address student dropout. Professional services play a key role in creating the conditions to maximise student success: adding value to the education experience, providing effective support services to underpin the student lifecycle journey, improving retention through data-informed initiatives, and operating the spaces in which students live, study and learn.

From mental health and wellbeing to challenges related to accommodation shortages in many countries, increased living costs and an unpredictable world, universities must support their students, monitor their progress and offer guidance. Furthermore, universities need to ensure that they provide students with sufficient curricular and extracurricular opportunities to develop labour market relevant skills and build intercultural connections – both within the university and in external environments, locally and globally. Offering such opportunities empowers students to reach their full potential as graduates.

The seminar will explore the many ways in which professional services in universities can positively influence the student journey and student success, drawing on case studies, practical examples, frameworks and tools from a diverse range of higher education sectors and institutions in Europe (including initiatives in European University Alliances).
